NZ Orientation Days 2023

Summary

A complementary 5 hour session to get clients prepared for their upcoming New Zealand trip. We will cover fly casting and review all necessary items of gear including rods/lines, waders, boots, wading staffs, flies and pack set up. It’s also a great way to meet the guides and other people on the trips.

What: A five hour New Zealand orientation session.

When: 10am – 3pm Saturday 23rd, September and Saturday 11th, November, 2023.

Where: Alexandra, 3714. VIC

Who: For all season 2024 New Zealand clients and a small number of prospective clients.

We are pleased to offer all of our NZ clients the chance to join us for a free weekend of instructional sessions, practical fishing and socialisng at our base of operations in Alexandra, a short drive from the Goulburn River, about two hours from Melbourne.

Itinerary

10.00 a.m. – 10.20 a.m.	Meeting and introductions.

10.20 a.m. – 11.20 a.m.	Discussion and review of all gear. Bring what you have.

11.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m.	Casting session.

12.30 p.m. – 1.40 p.m.	BBQ lunch and time with guides to ask questions.

1.40 p.m. – 3.00 p.m.	Casting / Flytying NZ flies / General Assistance / * Drift Boat

3.00 p.m.	End of structured day. Participants are welcome to stay on longer. Our guides will be available until 5.30pm.

This day has been put together with the following aims:

to ensure that all NZ trip participants are as well-prepared as possible for their trip.
to allow first-time trip participants to meet each other; and for more regular participants to catch up.
to give everyone the opportunity to improve their casting proficiency and thereby improve their chances of greater success in NZ. We will teach a number of practice drills for participants to utilise in the months before their trip.
to allow those contemplating booking a New Zealand trip the opportunity to meet us and our team and to speak with others who may have done the trips.
to have a lot of fun with like-minded people.

This free day is available to all of our NZ clients for 2024. However, we urge any past and prospective future clients who wish to attend to also express an interest. Once we have confirmed how many of our 2022 clients will be attending, we will look to fill the remaining spots from our email lists and Facebook page.

This will be a valuable day of skill-acquisition, with most of our guiding team being available. It also represents a terrific opportunity to meet other trip participants / like-minded folk. There will be a free B.B.Q. lunch.

I have been fly fishing for trout in the south Island of New Zealand for a few years now with the GVFFC boys. These are true professionals and totally committed to ensure that all anglers get the most out of the weeks fishing trip. All l have to do is get to queenstown. All transport, accommodation, food, guiding and flies are provided. I am booked for a week in 2019 and cannot wait. Absolutely great experience doing the one day learn to fly fish course. Anthony taught us to cast in the morning, salvaged lunch when I messed things up, and got us both to catch fish on dry flies on our first time fly fishing. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to learn to fly fish. The instructor knew the river like the back of his hand, had access to all the properties and seemed to know the fish on a first name basis. Thanks for the great day on the river. I hope to come back and learn more after Christmas. PS- Seeing platypus in the wild was a real bonus 👍

Been a regular client with Ant and the crew for years now. There really isn't much they don't know about fly fishing. They go out of their way above and beyond every time to make sure each drift is rewarding and unique. Hopefully I will be regular for years to come. Thanks.

drift fishing on the G with antony is one of the finest fishing experiences i've had. antony will not only put you onto fish but improve your fish craft and insect knowledge in one session. you will be a better fisherman/woman after this tranquil, informative and exhilerating experience. antony and his team care deeply about the river and are not looking to exploit it's fishing - rather to preserve it. i wish i could say the same about all guiding operations. thanks again antony - looking forward to the next one.

The guys at GVFFC are simply the best when it comes to fly fishing and guiding the Goulburn, Rubicon, Steavenson and other rivers in the area - nobody else comes close. I was lucky enough to have a day of guiding on the Goulburn recently, and their knowledge of the river is nothing short of incredible. I consider myself a fairly experienced fly fisher, but the level of advice and expertise they were able to offer was really eye opening. Everything from reading the water, to new tactics, to local knowledge of trout behaviour and which flies work best in which conditions - it's amazing just how much they can improve your fishing. To top it all off, they're great guys with a real passion for sustainable fishing. Do yourself a favour and book an experience with them - you won't regret it.
