Fly Fishing Workshop

A Calm, Confident Way to Begin

Fly fishing has a reputation for being complicated.
It doesn’t have to be.

Our two-day Beginner Fly Fishing Workshop is designed for people who are curious about fly fishing but want a clear, supportive introduction — without jargon, pressure, or the feeling that they’re “behind” before they’ve even started.

For more than 30 years, we’ve helped complete beginners take their first confident steps into fly fishing — often over a single weekend.

Learn From People Who Do This for a Living

This isn’t a one-off course run by part-timers.

You’ll be learning from full-time professional fly fishing guides who:

  • fish these rivers year-round

  • teach beginners most days

  • understand where people actually get stuck

We don’t just teach techniques — we teach understanding, so you leave knowing why things work, not just how to copy them.

Everything Is Provided — Just Turn Up

You don’t need to buy a rod, reel, flies, or waders beforehand.

We provide:

  • all fly fishing gear

  • all flies

  • all tuition

  • course notes

  • drinking water over both days

This allows you to try fly fishing properly before investing in equipment — and to learn on quality gear that’s correctly set up.

The Workshop at a Glance

Two days | Small group | Hands-on learning

You’ll be part of a small group of beginners, guided step-by-step through the foundations of fly fishing in a relaxed, practical way.

There’s plenty of time for questions, repetition, and one-on-one help.

No pressure. No embarrassment. No rushing.

What You’ll Learn

Over the weekend, we cover everything you need to begin fly fishing with confidence:

  • Fly casting fundamentals (made simple and repeatable)

  • Essential gear and how it all fits together

  • Knots you’ll actually use

  • Trout biology and behaviour

  • Reading the water — where fish sit and why

  • Entomology and fly selection (what fish eat and when)

  • Line management and basic streamcraft

  • Approaching and stalking fish

  • Hooking, playing, landing, and releasing trout

  • River etiquette and safety

Nothing is assumed. Everything is explained clearly.

Who This Workshop Is For

This workshop is ideal if you:

  • have never fly fished before

  • have tried a little and felt confused or have been unable to catch fish consistently

  • want a proper foundation rather than piecing things together online

  • prefer learning in a calm, supportive environment

All ages are welcome.
No particular fitness level is required.

We regularly teach people who thought fly fishing “might not be for them” — and many are surprised how quickly it clicks.

What You’ll Leave With

By the end of the weekend, our aim is simple:

You won’t be an expert — but you will be a confident beginner.

You’ll understand:

  • how to set up your gear

  • how to cast effectively

  • how to approach a river

  • how to keep learning on your own

Most importantly, you’ll leave knowing whether fly fishing is something you want to pursue — without guesswork.
