COVID-19 – UPDATE 29th April

Just a brief message to let everyone know that we are now taking bookings for later in the year, with the focus on the new fishing season that begins on Saturday 5th September 2020.

Services to resume include:

In retrospect I am glad that we began isolating nearly two full weeks before the government mandated it, and it would appear as though most Australians were equally as conscientious. Hopefully this will mean a return to (nearly) normal life sometime during the winter/early spring.

Finger’s crossed that this is the case. As a precaution we have temporarily amended our cancellation policy to allow penalty-free deferment of trips due to coronavirus. None of our clients will lose their deposits due this the current crisis.

Lastly, we want to send everyone our best wishes with whatever hardship you may be facing. This event has taken a huge toll on everyone, but due to the selfless actions of many Australians, there does appear to be some light at the end of the tunnel in the form of a relaxing of the strict rules we are living with.

It will be great to just get outside and walk a river once more.

Take care and please don’t hesitate to phone if you wish to discuss anything fly fishing related. We are always here to help.

Regards
Anthony and the GVFFC crew.

COVID-19 – UPDATE 20th March

Due to the ever-deteriorating public health crisis, Goulburn Valley Fly Fishing has suspended all trips and services until further notice. We imagine that we will not be offering trips until September or October 2020, as our main concern is now with the health and well-being of our many clients, friends and family members.

This may change subject to the recommendations of the Federal Government. But for the foreseeable future we will be in a holding pattern with no guided trips here or overseas, including to Montana (June – July – September) and Patagonia (November).

We will continue to post on our Facebook page and in the Member’s Area of this website, and we will  continue to take bookings for later in the year /2021 with a very relaxed deferment/postponement policy. This is to give people some peace of mind when booking, but also to acknowledge that this crisis will one day end. And when it does, we will be here, ready and waiting to take you out fishing again.

Most important of all we want to wish you, your families, and everyone you care about, the best of luck in staying safe and healthy throughout this crisis. If we all practice extreme social-distancing and support one another, we hope that we will come through this a more unified and resilient society.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions regarding  our services, trips or deals. Heck, drop us a line even if you just want to talk fly fishing to someone. While we aren’t qualified mental health professionals, we do understand what you’re going through better than most.

Be well, stay healthy and best wishes from everyone here at GVFFC.

Warm Regards,
Anthony, Bo, Lachie, Cameron, John, Chad and Geoff.

AUTUMN TRIPS AND EVENTS

Autumn is here early this year, with a significant change in the weather arriving a full fortnight sooner than usual. This will kick-start the fishing in the smaller streams of the district, and will also result in a return of the evening rise / evening drift fishing on the Goulburn River.

Read on to learn more about our upcoming events and trips for Autumn 2020.

  • Beginners Workshops will be running most weekends from now until early June. At just $390 per person for the two full days of instruction, and including use of all gear and lunch both days, this is an outstanding way to get into the sport of fly fishing with participants capable of fishing independently by the end of the weekend.
  • New Zealand Trips – APRIL – this is one of our most popular trips to the word’s best fly fishing destination. Take advantage of the cheap flights currently on offer and jump across to fish the uncrowded rivers of the South Island. Shoulder-season rates apply to April dates and put you on the ground in NZ at a huge discount from our high-summer dates. Bring a friend and receive a special booking bonus.
  • Drift Boat Fly Fishing on the Goulburn River is very popular at this time of the season. Lower water levels, mild air temperatures, and a return of the mayfly hatches make this a great time to go for a drift. Multiple boats available to cater to groups of 4-6 anglers.
  • A North East Victoria Trip is currently being planned. Please check this space soon or sign up to our mailing list to stay up to date with all of our offerings, as well as have the chance to win a fly pack or a free drift boat trip on the Goulburn River.
  • More to come on Saturday 14th March including streamcraft courses for those who’ve already completed our beginner workshop, a free day of casting and mini-workshops, some shorter Montana trips and NZ 2021 booking details.

Thanks, hope this finds you well, and see you soon.
Anthony and the GVFFC Team.

CALLING ALL AUSSIE FLY FISHERS

This is a quick note to all Australian fly fishers presently suffering through a severe case of heat induced ‘Fly Fishing Withdrawal Syndrome’.

Despair not friends, the Goulburn River in central Victoria is unaffected by bushfires and we have an abundance of cold – clear water courtesy of Lake Eildon (7x the water capacity of Lake Eildon), as well as some of the best dry fly fishing in Australia.

Situated near the small town of Alexandra (two hours north of Melbourne), the Goulburn River is fishing well, and will continue to offer the some of the best fly fishing for trout on the mainland throughout the coming months.

We are putting together special programs for all interstate based fly fishers, from now until midnight on Monday 8th June, 2020. We can arrange everything including your accommodation, guided fishing, even complimentary airport pick ups and drop offs for anglers doing a minimum of three days of guided fishing. We can even supply all necessary gear including top of the range rods and reels, allowing you to just hop a flight with a carry-on bag and travel lightly.

Some of the trips on offer include:

Please phone us on 03 5773 2513 to learn more about our trips, programs and special offers. We are available from 8am – 10pm daily, and we can put together something specifically suited to you and/or your group.

This trip takes two weeks to complete, and includes nine full days of guided fishing in three different regions. Once you arrive in Montana we take care of all the driving, teeing up of guides and accommodation, as well as making sure you get to experience some of the most memorable fishing possible.

The number of spots on this trip is strictly limited but are open to all fly fishers regardless of age – experience – fitness level. TRIP – GUIDE’S ROAD TRIP – 2 DAY – 2/3 NIGHT

When: Anytime.

Where: We pick you up from a location in Melbourne and take you to wherever is fishing best at the time.

Price: $990 per person based on twin-share for the standard two day – two night trip.

We are running our Guide’s Road Trips on arrangement for the rest of this season. This trip is completely flexible and can be for as short a period as a weekend, to as long as you’d like.

We take care of the travel, gear, guiding and flies; with the meals and accommodation arranged in accordance with the needs of each group

The price per guide is $990 per day to fish anywhere in Victoria including collecting you from the airport or from a location in Melbourne, and taking care of everything for the duration of the trip. This price is for a single or a pair of anglers. So $495 p.p. per day if sharing the trip with someone.

The most popular package is the standard two day – two night trip. A typical itinerary looks like this:

  1. We collect you on a Friday afternoon from a pre-arranged location and drive you to whatever part of the state is fishing best.
  2. Arrive late that night and sleep in tents or swags by the river. Alternatively we can stay in a nearby hotel if preferred.
  3. Up early and fish all day.
  4. Check into hotel Saturday evening for showers and a meal.
  5. Up early and fish all day.
  6. Leave late afternoon/early evening and have you back home later that night or stay the night and get back mid-morning the following day.

We provide all the flies, guiding, drinking water, transport/fuel, drift boats (if required) and all camping gear other than sleeping bags. We can even provide all fishing – gear including waders.

Not included in the price is the cost of any accommodation and meals on the trip. We just grab sandwiches everyday and pay our own way at dinner. This is an easy way to ensure that each group get exactly what they want, and allows us to keep the base trip price as low as possible.

Every aspect of this package is completely flexible and we can stay in accommodation each night if preferred. We can also add extra days to the trip and cater to larger groups by adding more guides.

This trip is a great way to ensure you get the best fishing possible at any given time; an important consideration given that we already have thirty degree weather in October. A lot of the rivers across Australia will stop fishing by Christmas on account of being too low and warm. This trip is a great way to ensure that you give yourself the best chance of success in a difficult season.
