This is our premium lodge-based international journey, combining the extraordinary variety of Patagonia’s trout fishing with the comfort and service of Patagonia River Guides’ five-star Trevelin lodge.
You fish hard during the day. You return to your own room, a hot shower, good wine, a professionally prepared dinner and a lodge designed around people who have spent the day outdoors.
The fishing remains the reason to travel.
The difference is what surrounds it.

A Different Kind of Patagonia Week
Trevelin sits between several very different landscapes.
To the west lies the temperate rainforest and glacial water of Los Alerces National Park. In the opposite direction, the country opens into the broad valleys and drier Patagonian steppe.
Between them is an extraordinary concentration of rivers, spring creeks and lakes.
That geography is one of the reasons Patagonia River Guides bases its southern operation here. Within reach of the lodge are everything from intimate sight-fishing water to larger freestones and substantial rivers suited to a full day from a boat.
The week does not revolve around ticking particular river names from an itinerary.
Each evening and morning, the PRG team looks at conditions, water levels, weather and the preferences of the anglers before deciding how best to use the following day.
The result is a week that can change character repeatedly without changing accommodation.
You unpack once.
Patagonia keeps changing around you.
Six Days. Different Water. Different Fishing.
PRG calls its approach “fish a different river daily.”
That does not mean moving for the sake of novelty. It reflects the remarkable number of different fisheries available around Trevelin and Esquel.
One day may involve stalking individual trout on a clear spring creek. Another may mean fishing a larger freestone river through open country. You can float glacial water through Los Alerces National Park, work structure from a boat, explore smaller rivers on foot or spend a quieter day searching one of the area’s stillwaters.
Among the waters available to the Trevelin operation are Arroyo Pescado, the Río Grande, Corcovado, Rivadavia, Arrayanes and a substantial network of other rivers, creeks and lakes.
The style of fishing changes with the water.
So does the pace.
Some situations reward long observation and one careful presentation. Others allow you to cover more water and fish with greater rhythm. Dry flies, nymphs and streamers can all have a place during the week.
What matters is not completing a predetermined itinerary.
It is fishing the most suitable water available that day.
Guiding at a Different Level
Every fishing day is conducted by Patagonia River Guides’ local team.
A lead guide is accompanied by an assistant guide, an arrangement that becomes particularly valuable when two anglers are walking and wading. Rather than one guide continually dividing their attention between two people, anglers can receive highly individual help and fish more independently when the water permits.
PRG’s guides do this professionally, season after season.
They know the private accesses, changing rivers and the subtle differences between fisheries that may sit relatively close together but require completely different approaches.
For experienced anglers, that means less time working things out from scratch.
For someone still developing, it means having close assistance without slowing the other angler’s day.
That level of staffing is one of the quiet luxuries of the Trevelin program.
Private Water and Room to Fish
Patagonia still feels large.
PRG has spent years building an extensive network of private water and access arrangements around its southern operation, adding opportunities beyond the public fisheries available from Trevelin.
That access allows the guides to spread anglers across different rivers and beats, rather than concentrating everyone around the most obvious water.
It also contributes to the flexibility of the program.
If conditions favour a spring creek, there are options.
If the group would rather float, there are options.
If someone wants a quieter day away from the larger rivers, there are options.
That variety is one of the defining strengths of Trevelin.
The Lodge at Trevelin
Five-Star Comfort at the End of the Day
PRG’s Lodge at Trevelin is not simply somewhere to sleep between fishing days.
It is part of the reason to choose this trip.
The lodge has twelve spacious bedrooms, each with its own private ensuite bathroom, set within landscaped grounds beneath the Andes. Rooms are comfortably appointed, with quality bedding and the space to settle in properly for the week.
For GVFFC guests, the intention is straightforward:
your own room, your own bathroom and somewhere genuinely comfortable to return to each evening.
There are generous common areas when you feel like company and enough space when you do not.
A large living room, fireplaces, a pool room, outdoor terraces and several bars provide different places to gather after fishing.
There is no need to move accommodation during the week.
Your gear has a home.
So do you.
The Spa, Vineyard and Evenings at the Lodge
Trevelin works unusually well because the fishing and the lodge do not compete with one another.
After the river, there is a sauna, massage room and hot tub overlooking the vineyard. You can have a drink on the deck, wander through the grounds or simply return to your room before dinner.
The lodge sits beside its vineyard, and wine is very much part of the experience.
There is also PRG’s well-known whiskey collection, accumulated over many seasons by guests from around the world.
None of these things is why an angler travels halfway around the world to Patagonia.
But after six or eight hours on the water, they matter.
Food Worth Coming Home For
Food at Trevelin is not treated as fuel between fishing days.
Professional chefs prepare the meals throughout the week, combining Argentine ingredients and traditions with the level of service expected from the lodge.
Breakfast is made to order.
Lunch is taken on the water. Depending on the day, guides cook food prepared by the lodge kitchen or set out a substantial riverside meal, usually accompanied by drinks and wine.
Back at the lodge, appetisers and a drink mark the transition from fishing to evening.
Dinner may feature Argentine beef, Patagonian lamb, produce from the lodge garden, an indoor parrilla or an asado over the outdoor fire, accompanied by Argentine wines.
The meals are generous without being formal.
You can arrive at dinner after a day in fishing clothes and talk about the fish that ate, the one that refused and where everyone is going tomorrow.
The quality is high.
The atmosphere remains Patagonia.
A Fishing Trip Your Partner Can Enjoy Too
This is one of the reasons Trevelin is quite different from our other international programs.
A non-angling partner does not need to spend six days waiting for the fishing to finish.
PRG can arrange days around the spa, vineyard and wine tasting, horseback riding, walks and sightseeing, shopping and exploring Trevelin, or excursions into the country surrounding the lodge.
A partner is equally welcome simply to have a slower day at the property.
They remain part of the evenings, meals and broader experience without having to fish every day themselves.
For couples who have talked about Patagonia but want something more complete than an anglers-only fishing camp, Trevelin makes a great deal of sense.
The Pace of the Week
This is serious fishing, but it does not require every guest to approach the week in exactly the same way.
Some anglers want six demanding walk-and-wade days.
Others would rather mix more floating into their program.
Trevelin allows considerable flexibility.
Tell us about your fishing preferences, fitness and mobility before the trip. PRG can balance walk-and-wade fishing with float days and select water accordingly.
Some locations inevitably involve uneven terrain and wading, and Patagonia should not be presented as physically effortless.
But neither does every day need to become an endurance exercise.
The aim is to fish well for six days, not exhaust you by Wednesday.
Who This Trip Suits
Trevelin is particularly well suited to the angler who wants excellent fishing and genuinely high-quality accommodation in the same trip.
You may have travelled extensively already and no longer see poor beds, shared bathrooms or indifferent food as necessary parts of a serious fishing holiday.
You may be travelling with a partner.
You may simply like fishing hard during the day and living comfortably afterwards.
Most guests will already have some fly-fishing experience, but technical perfection is not a prerequisite. The guide and assistant-guide system allows the fishing to be adapted to different abilities, and we can help with preparation before departure if required.
What matters more is an interest in the fishing itself and an appreciation for a well-run week.

I travel with the group throughout the week.
The fishing itself is led by Patagonia River Guides. That is deliberate.
They live with these rivers, guide them throughout the season and have spent years building the access and local knowledge that make the Trevelin program work.
My role begins before we leave Australia.
I help guests prepare, talk through equipment and travel, liaise with PRG and make sure everyone arrives understanding what to expect.
Once we are in Patagonia, I remain with the group and work with the lodge, guides and staff as the week develops.
My relationship with PRG goes back many years through friendships first developed in the American fly-fishing world, and this trip is built around that established connection rather than an anonymous booking with an overseas lodge.
You gain the local expertise of PRG and the continuity of travelling with GVFFC.
That is the partnership.

The price includes your private ensuite room at the Lodge at Trevelin, six professionally guided fishing days, breakfast, riverside lunches and dinners, standard beverages, scheduled airport transfers between Esquel and the lodge, and GVFFC hosting throughout the week.
International and domestic airfares to Esquel, gratuities and personal purchases are not included.
A 50% deposit secures your place. The remaining balance is due 90 days before departure.
Current PRG gratuity guidance will be supplied before the trip.
