Based in the vibrant Alexandra / Eildon area, our trip offers an assortment of diverse fishing rivers, including drift boating journey down the Goulburn River and walk-wade sessions on all local rivers.

Why should you choose Autumn Escape for your fishing trip? Autumn in north-east Victoria is an angler’s paradise. While Spring can bring heavy rains, and Summer brings overly warm conditions, Autumn in this region is just right. The days are cooler, the nights are colder, and the rivers are in prime condition for trout fishing.

As natural rhythms shift, late-season hatches of insects fire up and the fish feed intensively, giving you ample opportunities to chase trout using light rods and dry flies. Autumn also brings the chance to witness extraordinary Mayfly hatches and out-of-this-world Ant falls, promising some of the best fishing of the year.

Moreover, angling pressure is significantly reduced during Autumn, making it an ideal time for a tranquil fishing escape. Our recommended Monday-to-Friday format guarantees we’ll have plenty of water to ourselves each day.

Trip Highlights: Walk-Wade Fishing & Drift Boating

This trip is a set to be a mixture of drift boat and walk-wade fishing. With access to a variety of rivers, from small mountain streams to tailwaters like the Goulburn, there’s an abundance of choices from day to day.

These trips also have at least three drift boats available, and potentially more for larger groups. The possibility of drifting the Goulburn as a group adds a unique dimension to this fishing adventure.

Our trip includes five nights of wonderful accommodation, letting you arrive on Sunday evening, fish from Monday to Thursday, and depart on Friday morning, refreshed and ready to face the real world once more.

For meals, we recommend bringing your favourite breakfast items from home. All homes have cooking facilities for those who prefer to cook a meal in the evenings, and there are also several local restaurants to choose from. Often guests choose to bring pre-prepared meals from home.

Trip Inclusions and Exclusions

What’s Included:

Five nights’ accommodation (e.g. Sunday to Thursday).
Four full days of guided fly-fishing (e.g. Monday to Thursday).
All flies, terminal tackle and the use of any gear if required.

What’s Not Included:

Transport to and from Alexandra.
Fishing licenses.
Alcohol.
Meals.
Incidental purchases.

Who Should Book Autumn Escape?

This trip is suitable for fly fishers of all ages, experience levels, and fitness levels. It is a group trip, designed for a minimum of four anglers and a maximum of eight.

While there are occasionally set dates advertised, this trip can be organised at any time, on demand, for groups of four or more anglers.

I have been fly fishing for trout in the south Island of New Zealand for a few years now with the GVFFC boys. These are true professionals and totally committed to ensure that all anglers get the most out of the weeks fishing trip. All l have to do is get to queenstown. All transport, accommodation, food, guiding and flies are provided. I am booked for a week in 2019 and cannot wait. Absolutely great experience doing the one day learn to fly fish course. Anthony taught us to cast in the morning, salvaged lunch when I messed things up, and got us both to catch fish on dry flies on our first time fly fishing. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to learn to fly fish. The instructor knew the river like the back of his hand, had access to all the properties and seemed to know the fish on a first name basis. Thanks for the great day on the river. I hope to come back and learn more after Christmas. PS- Seeing platypus in the wild was a real bonus 👍

drift fishing on the G with antony is one of the finest fishing experiences i've had. antony will not only put you onto fish but improve your fish craft and insect knowledge in one session. you will be a better fisherman/woman after this tranquil, informative and exhilerating experience. antony and his team care deeply about the river and are not looking to exploit it's fishing - rather to preserve it. i wish i could say the same about all guiding operations. thanks again antony - looking forward to the next one.

The guys at GVFFC are simply the best when it comes to fly fishing and guiding the Goulburn, Rubicon, Steavenson and other rivers in the area - nobody else comes close. I was lucky enough to have a day of guiding on the Goulburn recently, and their knowledge of the river is nothing short of incredible. I consider myself a fairly experienced fly fisher, but the level of advice and expertise they were able to offer was really eye opening. Everything from reading the water, to new tactics, to local knowledge of trout behaviour and which flies work best in which conditions - it's amazing just how much they can improve your fishing. To top it all off, they're great guys with a real passion for sustainable fishing. Do yourself a favour and book an experience with them - you won't regret it.
